Chapter 3. Working with Fingerprint Software

This chapter provides the information you will need to configure Fingerprint Software. Within this chapter,
you may find the following topics:

“Management console tool” on page 15

“Secure mode and convenient mode” on page 17

ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Lenovo Fingerprint Software go with two different kinds of fingerprint
readers. ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.8.5.XXXX or 5.9.3.XXXX goes with the Upek fingerprint reader;
Lenovo Fingerprint Software 3.3.2.XXXX goes with the Authentic fingerprint reader. You can check the
fingerprint reader type in the Biometric section of Device Manager.

• For the detailed information about ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, go to Chapter 4 “Working with

ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software” on page 21.

• For the detailed information about Lenovo Fingerprint Software, go to Chapter 5 “Working with Lenovo

Fingerprint Software” on page 27.

Management console tool

The management console tool is for the administrator to configure Fingerprint Software through command
lines. This section provides information about user-specific commands and global setting commands.

Note: The Management console tool does not come with the installation package of Fingerprint Software.
For any detailed information about the management console tool, contact Lenovo Support.

User-specific commands

To enroll or edit users, the USER section is used. When the current user does not have administrator
rights, the console behavior depends on the security mode of the Fingerprint Software. Secure mode: no
commands are allowed. Convenient mode: ADD, EDIT and DELETE commands are possible for standard
user. However, the user can modify only his own passport (enrolled with his user name). The following is
the syntax:

FPRCONSOLE USER command

where command is one of the following commands: ADD, EDIT, DELETE, LIST, IMPORT, EXPORT.
