Considerations for using Lenovo Fingerprint Software

This section provides the information about special considerations for working with Lenovo Fingerprint
Software.

Deploying the ghost image with Lenovo Fingerprint Software

Fingerprint data is stored in the Lenovo Fingerprint Software reader that is encrypted by AES128. When you
create a ghost image for the Windows operating system, the Fingerprint data stored in the sensor will not be
migrated to the ghost image. To avoid this problem, use the export or import feature provided by Lenovo
Fingerprint Software. For detailed information about the implementation of the import and export feature,
refer to “Management console tool” on page 15.

Erasing fingerprint data

Once Lenovo Fingerprint Software is installed, the fingerprint data will be stored in the Lenovo Fingerprint
Software reader. Each time when you turn on the computer, the system will check whether the fingerprint
data of Lenovo Fingerprint Software matches the data stored in the reader. When you migrate or restore
the operating system installed with Lenovo Fingerprint Software to the target computer, Lenovo Fingerprint
Software might not work correctly due to the mismatched data.

To fix this problem, you need to erase the fingerprint data stored in the sensor and re-install Lenovo
Fingerprint Software.

To erase the fingerprint data, do the following:

1. Repeatedly press and release F1 during computer startup to enter the BIOS.

2. Select Security Fingerprint Erase Internal Fingerprint Data.

3. Click Yes, and then the fingerprint data could be erased from the Fingerprint reader.

Lenovo Fingerprint Software service

Note: The Lenovo Fingerprint Software requires the terminal service on the system. If you turn off the
terminal service, some unexpected results might occur in the Lenovo Fingerprint Software.

The following services are added to the system after the Lenovo Fingerprint Software is installed:

• ATService.exe (on by default): You must turn on the ATService.exe service to use the fingerprint system.

This service manages requests from applications using the fingerprint sensor.

• Data Transfer Service (on by default): When Data Transfer Service or the ATService.exe service is

abnormally terminated, Lenovo Fingerprint Software will not work as expected.
