Operation

Automatic Operation Sequence

Thegenerator’scontrolpanelhousesalogiccontrolcircuit

board.Thiscontrolboardconstantlymonitorsutilitypower

sourcevoltage.Shouldthatvoltagedropbelowapresetlevel,

controlboardactionwillsignaltheenginetocrankandstart.
Whenutilitysourcevoltageisrestoredaboveapreset

voltagelevel,theengineissignaledtoshutdown.
Theactualsystemoperationisnotadjustableandissequenced

bysensorsandtimersonthecontrolboard,asfollows:

Utility Voltage Dropout Sensor
 • Thissensormonitorsutilitysourcevoltage.
 • Ifutilitysourcevoltagedropsbelowabout70percent

ofthenominalsupplyvoltage,thesensorenergizesa

10secondtimer.Thetimerisusedto‘sense’brown-outs.

 • Oncethetimerhasexpired,theenginewillcrankand

start.

Utility Voltage Pickup Sensor
Thissensormonitorsutilitypowersupplyvoltage.Whenthat

voltageisrestoredabove80percentofthenominalsource

voltage,atimedelaystartstimingandtheenginewillgoto

enginecool-down.

Engine Cool-down Timer
 • Whentheloadistransferredbacktotheutilitypower

source,theenginecool-downtimerstartstiming.

 • Thetimerwillrunforaboutoneminute,thenthe

generatorwillstop.

 • Minimumengineruntimeis5minutes.

Automatic Operation

Toselectautomaticoperation,dothefollowing:
 1. Setthemaindistributionpanelcircuitbreakerthat

sendsutilityvoltagetothetransferswitchtoON.

 . Setthegenerator’smaincircuitbreakertoitsON

position.

 3. SetthesystemswitchtoAUTO.

CAUTION

WiththesystemswitchsettoAUTO,theengine

maycrankandstartatanytimewithoutwarning.

Suchautomaticstartingnormallyoccurswhen

utilitysourcevoltagedropsbelowapresetlevel

orduringthenormalexercisecycle.

Topreventpossibleinjurythatmaybecausedbysuch

suddenstarts,alwayssetthesystemswitchtoOFF.
Removethe15Ampfusebeforeworkingonoraround

thegeneratorortransferswitch.

Checking Automatic Operation
Tocheckthesystemforproperautomaticoperation,proceed

asfollows:
 1. TurnOFFthemaindistributionpanelcircuitbreaker

sendingpowertotheautomatictransferswitch.

Theenginewillcrankandstartwhentheutilityvoltagedrops

outandthesensorhastimedout.Letthesystemgothrough

itsentireautomaticoperationsequence.
 . Withthegeneratoroutputsupplyingitsloads,turnON

themaindistributionpanelcircuitbreakerthatsupplies

utilitypowertotheautomatictransferswitch.

 3. Theautomatictransferswitchwilltransferloadsback

totheutilitypowerafter5minuteminimumruntime

andutilityisrestored.

 4. Thegeneratorwillrunforanadditionaloneminutefor

enginecooldown,thenshutdown.

NOTE:Ifutilityisrestoredandgeneratordoesnotshutdown

after10minutes,setsystemswitchtoOFFandcontactyour

installerorlocalservicecenter.
Thiscompletesthetestproceduresforautomaticoperation.

Thehomegeneratorwillnowstartautomaticallywhenutility

powerislostandwillsupplypowertothetransferswitch.
