Ingesting Media Files

To ingest media files using the Log and Transfer window:

In the Finder, mount the volumes holding your footage on the desktop.

Choose Final Cut Express > System Settings, then click the Scratch Disks tab.

Choose a scratch disk to determine where ingested media will be stored.

In the Final Cut Express Browser, choose a capture bin where ingested clips will be
stored in your project.

Choose File > Log and Transfer (or press Command-Shift-8).

Your media files appear in the Browse area.

Select a clip in the Browse area of the Log and Transfer window to view it in the
Preview area.

Change the clip’s Reel property in the Logging area.

Change the clip name to a meaningful name, if necessary.

Add descriptive information about each clip in the logging fields. These properties are
included with the clip when it is ingested and stored in the Browser.

Click Import Settings in the Logging area, then select to ingest just audio, just video,
or both.

Do one of the following:

 In the Browse area, select one or more clips, then click Add Selection to Queue.
 In the Preview area, click Add Clip to Queue.

Note: When you click the Add Clip to Queue button, only the clip that appears in the
Preview area is added to the Transfer Queue.

Watch the Transfer Queue area to see the status of your ingested media.

Note: The Log and Transfer window shows an average duration for AVCHD clips,
especially clips longer than 1 minute. After ingesting clips, the correct duration is
displayed in the Browser.
