Coverings or parts that can be removed from the device with-
out the aid of any tools must be put back on the device again
to ensure safe operation, for example to keep foreign objects
and liquids, etc. from getting into the device.
Please observe applicable safety instructions and regulations
as well as work protection and accident prevention require-
ments for use in the laboratory.
The device must be fastened onto the laboratory stand so that
it cannot tip over. The support brackets on the bath vessel
(included with delivery) or the boom, which screws into the
threaded socket, can be used for this purpose. The device is
not designed for manual operation.
You should also be careful to ensure that the minimum clea-
rances and immersion depths in the temperature control medi-
um are observed (see diagram).
Exercise caution while filling up hot bath vessels.
Do not transport or empty the bath vessel while it is still hot.
This may result in accidents, especially scalding injuries.
If you are using plastic bath vessels, observe the limited range
of working temperatures and use a suitable bath liquid (it may
be necessary to consult with the bath manufacturer).
The safety circuit (safe temperature) must be adjusted so that
the maximum permissible temperature cannot be exceeded
even in the event of a fault (see the section ”Adjusting the
safety temperature”).
When working at elevated temperatures, parts of the bath ves-
sel may take on high surface temperatures. Exercise caution
when coming in contact with these surfaces.
Secure distributor hoses and tubes against slipping and avoid
kinks. Check distributor hoses, distributor tubes and bath ves-
sels at regular intervals for possible material fatigue
(cracks/leaks).
Demineralized water is recommended as a bath or temperatu-
re control liquid.
IKA assumes no liability if temperature control liquids not
recommended by IKA are used. The maximum temperature for water as a bath liquid/tem-
perature control liquid is 90°C. If water is used as a bath
liquid above this temperature, there is heavy loss of liquid due
to evaporation, associated with steam condensation in and on
parts in the area of evaporation.
There is a risk of damage being caused by the bath running dry
quickly. Related to this, damage may also be caused to the
EH4 basic by water condensation.
Loss of the bath liquid resulting from evaporation and conden-
sation of water vapor on the EH4 basic can be kept to a mini-
mum by using suitable bath coverings.
Continuous monitoring of the bath and the filling level of the
bath liquid is required, especially at high temperatures.
The device must only be operated with grounded mains power
connections.
Please be aware of the possible danger posed by toxic (poiso-
nous) or flammable gasses being liberated from material that is
being heated up.
The EH4 basic suspended thermostat is suitable for use in
modifying the temperature of liquids from room temperature
to 100 °C in open containers.
