9.3 Data transfer

Connection
- make

This function establishes a connection to a device. A connection to a device is
a precondition for being able to transfer a rights file to or from a device via an
interface (serial or Ethernet).

Connection
– break

Breaks an existing connection. A connection to a device must be broken
before a new connection can be established to another device.

Device
rights file
– to device

This function is used to derive a rights file for the device from the current PCS
user list, and to send it to the device via the interface. The rights file will be
evaluated within the device and compared with the device-internal user list.
If there is no connection, the software will automatically attempt to access the
standard (default) device.

User list
– in device

This displays the user list read out from a device. The device list is not added
to the current list, and cannot be edited. If there is no connection, the software
will automatically attempt to access the default device.

Device
rights file
– create

This creates a device rights file (name: B17201.SET) and saves it to the hard
disk or the CompactFlash memory card. The CompactFlash card can be used
to read in the device rights file at the device itself. The rights file will be
evaluated within the device and compared with the device-internal user list.

PC rights file
– create

This creates a PC rights file and saves it to the hard disk or the CompactFlash
memory card. If the software components are installed on a PC by using the
“Local user” option for installation, then such a rights file will have to be used.
