Disassembly

NOTE: Follow these instructions carefully. The quality and performance of the rebuilt 2020-series drum unit/cartridge will depend on your workmanship as well as the
condition of the used drum unit/cartridge being rebuilt.

1.

Remove the waste toner compartment lid (A) and vacuum out the waste toner.

2.

Remove the front cover/handle (B) by carefully lifting the two snap-fit tabs on the rear and bottom of the front cover/handle.

3.

Remove the drum retaining pin plate (C) by removing two screws, releasing the used OPC drum (D). Remove and discard the used OPC drum.

4.

Remove the primary corona unit (E). Clean the corona housing, and replace the used corona wire with new, gold plated 60m corona wire, if needed.
NOTE: Insufficient cleaning of the corona unit can cause light streaks on copies.

5.

Mark the position of the Mylar seal tape (F) and remove. (Be sure to remove any remaining adhesive material from the top of the drum cartridge by wiping with a soft
cloth and isopropyl alcohol.) Discard the used seal tape. NOTE: Alcohol vapors can damage the OPC drum. Make sure to allow the cartridge to dry completely
before reassembling.

6.

Remove and set aside the two drum cleaning blade side seals (G, H).

7.

Remove the used drum cleaning blade (J) by removing the two screws which secure it to the cartridge frame. Discard the used drum cleaning blade.

8.

Vacuum all excess toner from the front and top of the drum cartridge, being careful not to damage the Mylar recovery blade.
NOTE: A damaged recovery blade will cause toner spots on copies.

Rebuilding

9.

Install the new drum cleaning blade provided in the Katun Rebuild Kit, securing it with the two screws removed in step 7.
NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH THE BLADE SURFACE WHEN REPLACING THE BLADE.
IMPORTANT: Apply a generous dusting of fresh Kynar powder to the cleaning edge of the new drum cleaning blade.

10. Reinstall the two drum cleaning blade side seals (G, H) removed in step 6.

11. Install the new, precut Mylar seal tape provided in the Katun Rebuild Kit, carefully placing it in its proper position as marked in step 5. (If tape is positioned incorrectly,

inadequate preconditioning exposure can result in unacceptably dark copies.)

12. Reinstall the primary corona unit (E) removed in step 4.

13. IMPORTANT: Dust the entire surface of the new Katun OPC drum with additional Kynar powder. Install the new OPC drum, securing it with the drum retaining pin

plate (C) and two screws removed in step 3. Manually rotate the OPC drum at least one complete revolution to properly distribute Kynar powder and minimize the
possibility of “blade flip.”

14. Reattach the front cover/handle (B) removed in step 2.

15. Reinstall the waste toner compartment lid (A) removed in step 1.
