1 Preface and general information
This Manual informs about the standard IEC 61131-3.
The IEC 61131-3 standard is the basis for uniform PLC programming that enables the user

to use already tested and standardized software components again.

to apply software engineering methods for the generation of these components.
•
to consider problem solutions from a complex point of view.
•
to abstract complex tasks in smaller modules.
•
to define interfaces unambiguously.
•
to transfer progams more easily to other systems.
The programming languages used in the Drive PLC Developer Studio meet the requirements
of the IEC 61131-3 standard.
In many cases, the Introduction also lists the international terms ( in italics in brackets) in addition to
the German terms.
