GuardShield Light Curtain Weld Shield

IMPORTANT: SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE USE.

Description

The GuardShield weld shields are sold as pairs in the same
lengths as the protective heights of the GuardShield safety
light curtain.

These polycarbonate weld shields are designed as
disposable devices whose purpose is to protect the front
window of the GuardShield from damage.

Installation

It is necessary to attach Velcro strips adjacent to the inside
curved area on each side of the weld shields as shown in
Step

Ê

of Figure 1, before attaching the weld shield to the

GuardShield housing (Step

Ë

).

S

Begin by peeling back and removing the protective liner
from the inside of the weld shield.

S

Select a piece of Velcro and remove the backing to expose
the adhesive layer.

S

Carefully place and firmly press each Velcro strip along the
curved edge of the weld shield as shown in Figure 1.
Locate the Velcro strips at the ends of the weld shield and
then equally space the remaining Velcro strips over the
length of the weld shield.

S

After attaching the Velcro strips to the weld shield, remove
the backing on each, exposing the adhesive and carefully
place the weld shield over the front of the GuardShield
transmitter or receiver (Step 2).

S

Assure that all Velcro strips are clear of the front window.

S

Firmly press on the weld shield at each area where there is
a Velcro strip to assure good adhesion of the Velcro to the
housing.

S

Remove the protective coating from the front of each weld
shield prior to installing and powering the GuardShield light
curtains.

Important:

Each weld shield reduces the maximum
scan range of the GuardShield by 10%.
For example, two weld shield’s (one for
transmitter and one for receiver) would
reduce the maximum scan range of a
14mm (0.02in) resolution GuardShield
from 7m (22.9ft) to 5.7m (18.7ft).

Cleaning

Use a soft lint free cloth and mild soap or detergent (i.e., 409
cleaner) and lukewarm water.

Paint, grease, oils, etc. can be removed before drying by
rubbing lightly with isopropyl alcohol and then washing with
mild detergent and warm water.

ATTENTION: Abrasive or highly
alkaline cleaners may damage the
polycarbonate weld shields.

Locate the precut Velcro strips adĆ

jacent to the inside curved edge of

each side of the weld shield

Note: Each weld shield kit comes with a total of 24 Velcro strips.

GuardShield’s with smaller protective heights may not require
the attachment of all strips. Use your discretion in the number
of strips applied.
