8510 AC Spindle Drive
Panel Mounting Adapter Kits

Introduction The basic 8510 AC Spindle Drive is designed to be mounted with the heat
sink extending through a hole in the back of the enclosure. This vents much
of the drive heat outside the enclosure. As an alternative, a Panel Mounting
Adapter Kit can be used to mount the drive completely inside the
enclosure. The following table shows which Panel Mounting Adapter Kit is
used with each drive size.

Important: You must size the enclosure to dissipate the heat generated by
the drive either through convection cooling or through use of an air
conditioner or air to air heat exchanger. Refer to chapter 5 in the 8510 User
Manual (publication 8510-5.1), for information on drive thermal
dissipation and derating at increased ambient temperatures.
Installation The following describes the steps you must perform to mount the 8510
using the Panel Mounting Adapter Kit.
1. Using the information above, verify that the correct kit is being used.
Also verify that two (2) mounting brackets and four (4) M6 locknuts
(nuts with integral lockwasher) have been included (see Figure 1).
2. The mounting brackets bolt to the drive by inserting the studs on the
brackets into the normal drive mounting holes. The brackets must be
positioned with the slotted mounting holes at the bottom of the drive.
Use the supplied locknuts to attach the brackets. Tighten the nuts to
5.5-7 N-m (50-70 lb.-in.) of torque.
3. Refer to Chapter 3 of the 8510 User Manual for the mounting
dimensions for the assembled drive unit. Securely bolt the drive (and
brackets) to the panel. Use M6 or M8 (1/4 or 5/16 in.) bolts with
lockwashers.
