PROCEDURE

1.

Fill the test tube (0608) to the 20 mL line with the “fixed” sample.
Cap.
NOTE:

If the color of the “fixed” sample is already a very faint yellow,

skip Step 2, Perform Step 3, and begin the titration at Step 4.

2.

Fill the Direct Reading Titrator, 0-10 Range (0377) with Sodium
Thiosulfate Solution (4169). Insert into the center hole of the test
tube cap.

3.

While gently swirling the tube, slowly press the plunger to titrate until
the yellow-brown color is reduced to a very faint yellow.

4.

Remove the Titrator and cap from the test tube. Be careful not to
disturb the Titrator plunger, as the titration begun in Step 3 will be
continued in Step 5. Add 8 drops of Starch Indicator Solution
(4170WT). Solution will turn blue.

5.

Replace the cap and continue titrating until the blue color just
disappears. Read the test result directly from the scale where the large
ring on the Titrator meets the Titrator barrel. Record as ppm Dissolved
Oxygen. Each minor division equals 0.2 ppm.

6.

If the plunger tip reached the bottom line on the titrator scale (10
ppm) before the endpoint color change occurs, refill the Titrator and
continue the titration. When recording the test result, be sure to
include the value of the original amount of reagent dispensed (10
ppm).

A Demineralizer Bottle supplies the deionized water used in this kit. Read
the Demineralizer Instruction Manual before proceeding.
Read the Direct Reading Titrator Instruction Manual before proceeding.

AM MO NIA NI TRO GEN TEST

1.

Fill the square tube (0106) to the 5 mL line with sample water.

2.

Add 8 drops of Ammonia Nitrogen Reagent #1 (4797).

3.

Add 8 drops of *Ammonia Nitrogen Reagent #2 (4798). Cap and mix.

4.

Allow 5 minutes for the color to develop. Invert once to mix and
remove the cap.

5.

Hold the tube against the white area of the Ammonia Nitrogen Color
Chart (3560-CC). Match the sample color to a color standard. Record
as ppm Ammonia Nitrogen.
NOTE:

If the resulting color is darker than the highest standard, a

dilution is required. Follow the dilution procedure below.

DILUTION PROCEDURE

1.

Use the 0.5 mL pipet (0353) to add 0.5 mL of a new water sample to a
second square tube (0106).

2.

Dilute to 5 mL line with deionized water.

3.

Follow the instructions above, starting with Step 2. Multiply result by
10. Record as ppm Ammonia Nitrogen.

4.

If the color is still darker than the highest standard use the 0.5 mL
pipet (0353) to add 0.5 mL of the sample to a square tube (0106) and
dilute to 10 mL.

5.

Use 5 mL of this diluted sample and follow instructions above, starting
with Step 2.

6.

Multiply result by 20. Record as ppm Ammonia Nitrogen.
