Personal identification number (PIN)
You need the PIN to start the configuration mode. The default setting on delivery is
0000. We strongly recommend you to change this PIN and keep the new one in a
safe, secret place, in order to prevent unauthorised persons from gaining access to
the configuration mode.

PPP
This stands for “point-to-point protocol,” a network protocol used for connecting to
the Internet via a modem.

Pulse dialling
A dialling procedure in which the dialling signals are transmitted in the form of electri-
cal impulses, as used by telephones with rotary dialling disks, for instance.

Reset communications system
You can deactivate or delete all activated features and activate the default (factory)
settings instead.

SMS
Short Message Service, i.e. short messages transmitted to and from mobile tele-
phones and fixed-line networks.

S0 port

The international standardised ISDN interface for connecting communications sys-
tems and/or up to eight ISDN devices.

Speed dialling
You can store up to 100 numbers and dial them using a two-digit speed-dialling
code.

TAE
Socket for connecting analogue devices.

TAPI
Stands for “Telephony Application Programming Interface,” and is a programming
interface in Microsoft Windows used by Windows programs to control telephony func-
tions, e.g. dialling wizards.

TCP/IP
Stands for “Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol,” and is a transmission
protocol for networks also used for connecting to the Internet.

T-NetBox
Digital answerphone with a fax buffer in Deutsche Telekom’s telephone network. The
Eumex 504PC SE signals messages waiting in the T-NetBox.
