Raised Hearth Extension Framing

WARNING! Risk of Fire. A raised hearth extension built

flush with the fireplace opening (Figure 11.3) or less than

4 in. (102 mm) below the fireplace opening requires the

fireplace be installed on a non-combustible surface.

The hearth framing must be constructed of non-combus-

tible materials (Figure 11.2) and placed on 1/2 in. Micore,

or equivalent material (Figure 11.4). When creating the

platform, allow for the thickness of the non-combustible

finishing materials (Figure 11.5).
