Initial Blade Tracking

Blade tracking is primarily affected by the tilt of
the upper wheel, known as “center tracking.”
however, the alignment of both wheels plays an
important part as well (see the

Aligning Wheels

instructions on

Page 65 for more details).

the wheels on this bandsaw were aligned at the
factory, so center tracking is the only adjustment
that needs to be performed when the saw is
new.

To center track the blade:

1. disCoNNECt BaNdsaW FroM poWEr!

2. Make sure the upper and lower blade guides

are adjusted away from the blade.

3. open the upper wheel cover.

4. Engage the quick tension lever, then turn the

blade tension handwheel until the tension
scale (see

Figure 30) is between 4 and 6.

Serious personal injury can

occur if the machine starts

while your hand is touch-

ing the bandsaw wheel dur-

ing tracking adjustments.

Disconnect power from the

bandsaw before perform-

ing blade tracking adjust-

ments.

5. spin the upper wheel by hand at least three

times and watch how the blade rides on the
crown of the wheel. refer to

Figure 31 for an

illustration of this concept.

— if the blade rides in the center of the upper

wheel and is centered on the peak of the
wheel crown, then the bandsaw is already
tracking properly and no further adjust-
ments are needed at this time.

— if the blade does not ride in the center of

the upper wheel and is not centered on the
peak of the wheel crown, then continue
with the following steps.

The wheels may have sharp edges and the

blade teeth may extend beyond the edge,

creating a laceration hazard. Be careful

when turning the wheels by hand.

IMPORTANT

changes made to the blade tension may

change how the blade tracks.
