Problem

Cause

Remedy

The camera
will not turn on

The battery is not installed Check if a battery is installed. If not,

install a battery. (p.16)

The battery is installed
incorrectly

Check orientation of the battery and
reinsert it. (p.16)

The battery is exhausted

Charge the battery. (p.17)

The battery performance
has temporarily
deteriorated because it is
too cold

Warm up the battery by putting it in a
pocket where it can come in contact with
body heat.

No image
appears on the
LCD monitor

The LCD monitor is set to
Off

Press the OK/Display button to turn the
LCD monitor On.

The image is displayed
but is hard to see

The image on the LCD monitor may be
hard to see when taking pictures outside
in sunlight. Try raising the brightness of
the LCD monitor.

The shutter will
not release

The flash is charging

When the flash icon blinks red on the
LCD monitor, the flash is charging and no
pictures can be taken. The flash icon
lights red when charging is completed.

There is no available space
on the SD Memory Card or in
the built-in memory.

Insert an SD Memory Card with available
space or delete unwanted images. (p.23,
137)

Recording

Wait until recording is finished.

The number of image,
movie, and sound files
recorded on the SD
Memory Card has
reached 10,000.

Replace the SD card with another having
available space or delete unwanted files.

The picture is
dark

The subject is too far away
in a dark environment,
such as a night scene

The picture will become dark if the
subject is too far away. Take pictures
within the specified flash range.

The background is dark

When taking a picture of a person against
a dark background, such as a night
scene, the background may appear dark
if the flash does not reach it, even with
the correct exposure. Set the capture
mode to A (Night Scene) to ensure that
both the person and the background are
clear. (p.53, 77)
