E86P TIKKA XP E86504 Révision F (30906)

(EN) ENgLIsh

headlamp with high-output LEd
optical system

Consists of a focused LED for long-range vision with a flip-up diffuser

lens for proximity lighting.

switching on and off, selecting lighting levels

The TIKKA XP offers a choice of 3 lighting levels:

- Level . Maximum: maximum power.

- Level . Optimum: best balance of power and burn time.

- Level 3. Economy: low power/maximum burn time.

- There is also a Flashing mode.

Use the on/off switch to choose the right amount and type of light for

your needs. Press the switch:

- click to turn the light on at the Maximum power level.

- rapid clicks for the Optimum level,

- 3 rapid clicks for the Economy level,

- 4 rapid clicks for the Flashing mode.

If the delay between clicks is too long, the lamp turns off. To turn the

lamp off, wait at least 3 seconds after the last button was pressed,

then press the on/off switch.

BoosT

The BOOST mode produces about 50 % more light than the Maximum

level.

Press and hold the BOOST button down to use the BOOST mode.

BOOST may be activated anytime, whether the lamp is off, flashing, or

set to one of the 3 lighting levels. If used too frequently, this mode can

quickly drain the batteries.

Automatic power limiter:

To avoid overheating the LED, the BOOST lighting level drops to

Maximum after 0 seconds, even if the button is held down.

If BOOST is used repeatedly, the electronic system will prevent further

use of the BOOST mode until the LED cools down.

In high-temperature conditions, the electronics will also limit the

current in the LED if it gets too hot. When this happens, the light will

be noticeably dimmer, whatever lighting level is on.

Battery charge indicator

The indicator starts working 5 seconds after the lamp has been turned

on.

It does not work in BOOST mode.

When the batteries are fresh, the indicator blinks green. When they

are used (about 70 % discharged), it turns orange, and then red when

they need to be replaced (about 90 % discharged).

As an additional alert, the headlamp’s beam will blink momentarily

when the indicator changes color.

These values are approximate (based on use with alkaline batteries)

and will vary depending on the temperature and the type of battery

used.

The indicator gives only a general idea of remaining battery life.

Its accuracy varies with the type of batteries used and with the

temperature.

Installing the batteries

Tilt the head all the way down until the ratchet teeth are disengaged.

Open the battery case cover. Install the batteries according to the

polarity indicators inside the battery case.

maintenance

Do not attempt to dismantle the lamp. LEDs have a very long lifetime

and do not require service. Dismantling the lamp voids the guarantee.

Water in the battery case can cause a malfunction.

After use in a moist or wet environment, remove the batteries and

allow the lamp to dry completely.

Waterproofness

The waterproofness of the lamp depends on following the instructions

for use and maintenance.

Take care to avoid damaging the O-ring or its seating (tools, sand,

etc.).

Periodically clean the O-ring and lubricate it with a thin coat of silicone

grease only (PETZL maintenance kit).

WARNING, silicone grease can irritate the eyes. In case of eye contact,

rinse immediately with plenty of water for 5 minutes and consult a

doctor. Keep silicone grease out of reach of children.

In case of malfunction

If the lamp flickers, see the section entitled «Battery charge indicator».

If the BOOST does not work or if the lamp dims suddenly, see

«Automatic power limitation».

Verify the batteries are charged and correctly installed with respect

to polarity. Follow the polarity indicators on the battery case. Check

the contacts for corrosion. In case of corrosion, gently scrape the

contacts without deforming or damaging them. If your lamp still does

not work, contact PETZL.

Batteries

Use alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeables.

Do not use the lamp with Lithium batteries; due to recent advances

in their performance characteristics (especially their higher output

during discharge), they can cause the lamp to overheat and possibly

damage the LEDs.

ATTENTIoN dANgEr, risk of explosion and burns.
- The batteries must be inserted correctly w/respect to polarity by

following the diagram on the battery case. If one battery is reversed

(two + poles or two - poles in contact with each other), a chemical

reaction is produced in minutes that releases explosive gasses and

extremely corrosive liquid.

Indicator: a weak level of light with new batteries indicates that the

polarity of one or more batteries is reversed.

In case of doubt, turn off the lamp immediately and check the polarity.

Protect your eyes in case leakage has already occurred. Cover the

battery case with a rag before opening it to avoid contact with any

discharge.

In case of contact with liquid from the batteries, rinse affected area

immediately with clear water and get immediate medical attention.

- Do not mix brands of batteries.

- Do not mix new and used batteries.

- Remove the batteries from the lamp for prolonged storage.

- Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.

- Do not short-circuit the batteries as this can cause burns.

- Do not attempt to open or dismantle batteries.

- Do not put used batteries in a fire.

- Keep batteries out of reach of children.

PRECAUTIONS to avoid damaging your lamp (oxydation of

contacts...) and to limit the risk of leaky batteries, do not allow the

batteries to become heavily discharged and keep water out of the

battery case.

Protecting the environment

Lamps, bulbs, and batteries should be recycled and not thrown in the

regular trash. Dispose of these items by recycling them in accordance

with applicable local regulations. By doing so you play a part in

protecting the environment and public health.

Electromagnetic compatibility

Conforms to the requirements of the 89/336/CEE directive on

electromagnetic compatibility.
