B. Recommendations

(1)

ACR Electronics recommends installation of the C406-2HM ELT in helicopters. The C406-2HM

ELT is equipped with a 5-axis G-switch module in addition to the usual primary G-switch,

which is oriented to the direction of flight. See Figure 26.

(2)

The six-axis coverage of the C406-2HM design accommodates the flight characteristics of

helicopters, while allowing “normal” installation and eliminating or significantly reducing

“nuisance” ELT activations.

C. Orientation

(1)

Mount the C406-2HM ELT parallel to the waterline of the fuselage, along the longitudinal axis,

with the direction-of-flight arrow on the ELT pointing forward. See Figure 27.

NOTE: This is the orientation of the primary G-switch in the ELT.

(2)

The ELT may be angled downward as much as 25°, if necessary.

NOTE: Keep in mind the steeper the mounting angle, the more pre-load on the primary G-

switch and the increased likelihood of “nuisance” activations.

(3)

All other installation requirements contained herein are applicable and must be adhered to.
