Pitting and Spalling Failures
Helical Side Gear - Pitting Side Gear - Pitting
Output Side Gear - Spalling Side Pinion - Pitting
General Description: Progressive destruction of gear teeth. An overload puts pressure between the meshed surfaces. Re-
peated overloads result in teeth failure.
Usual Causes: • Continuous overloading
• Contaminated lube
• Incorrect lube
• Low lube levels
