3.2 Principle of operation

The instrument is suitable for applications in liquids in vessels also

under difficult process conditions. There are application possibilities

in nearly all areas of industry.
The measured value is detected contactlessly right through the vessel

wall. Neither a process fitting nor a vessel opening are required. The

instrument is thus ideal for retro installation.
The instrument is various application possibilities. Apart from the level

detection, the MINITRAC 31 can also detect residues.

2 Point level detection

In radiation-based measurement, a Caesium-137 or Cobalt-60 iso-

tope emits focussed gamma rays that are attenuated when penetrat-

ing the vessel wall and the medium. The NaI detector on the opposite

side receives the radiation. The intensity of the radiation depends
