Replacing or upgrading a pre-installed optical drive

In the future, you may need to replace a defective optical drive or upgrade
an installed one:

1.

Make sure the optical drive you intend to install complies with the
recommended dimensions mentioned in page 33-34.

2.

Lay the storage drive assembly on its top on a flat surface.

3.

Remove the screws of the optical drive you intend to replace. Keep
the screws for later use.

4.

Remove the old optical drive, then set aside.

5.

Insert the new optical drive to the bay.

6.

Follow steps 3-9 of the previous section to complete installation.

Connect one end of the IDE
ribbon cable to the IDE interface
at the back of the optical drive.
Match the red stripe on the
cable with Pin 1 on the IDE
interface.

Connect one end of the optical
drive audio cable to the 4-pin
connector at the back of the
optical drive.

7.

Connect the other end of the IDE ribbon cable to the PRI_SIDE
connector on the motherboard. See page 63 for the location of the
PRI_SIDE connector.

8.

Connect the other end of the audio cable to the 4-pin CD connector
on the motherboard. See page 65 for the location of the CD
connector.

9.

Re-install the storage drive
assembly, then secure it with the
screws you earlier removed.
