2.4 Install the CPU heatsink and fan
The Intel ® Pentium ® 4 478/Northwood Processor requires a specially
designed heatsink and fan assembly to ensure optimum thermal condition
and performance.
When you buy a boxed Intel Pentium 4 478/Northwood Processor, the
package usually includes the heatsink and fan assembly.
IMPORTANT
Make sure that you use only Intel certified CPU heatsink and fan.
Follow these steps to install the
CPU heatsink and fan.
1. Position the fan heatsink
assembly on top of the
installed CPU with the
heatsink fins directed towards
the rear I/O ports, and that the
fan cable is nearest the CPU
fan connector (marked
CPU_FAN1) on the
motherboard .
2. Align one retention bracket
with the rail on the side of the
fan. Orient the bracket with the
locking lever beside the DIMM
sockets.
3. Snap the hook of the retention
bracket into the hole of the
retention module.
