If this type of read fails, Remote Copy:

cancels the synchronization process

marks the secondary volume as NotSynced

does not stop the volume group

To synchronize the volume group, issue the syncrcopy command.

Read Errors during Resynchronization of Asynchronous Periodic Volume Groups

As long as you have set a synchronization period, asynchronous periodic volume groups are
automatically resynchronized at the scheduled synchronization interval. For more information on
setting the synchronization period, see

“Setting Up Resynchronization for Asynchronous Periodic

Mode” (page 201)

.

During resynchronization, Remote Copy compares two read-only snapshots of the primary volume
and reads any new data from the newer snapshot. For more information on the resynchronization
process, see

“Resychronization” (page 199)

.

If this type of read fails, Remote Copy:

cancels the resynchronization process

marks the secondary virtual volume as Stale, which indicates that the secondary volume has
a valid point-in-time copy of the primary volume but that the last attempt at synchronization
failed

automatically promotes the snapshots taken on the secondary virtual volumes

To resynchronize the virtual volumes:

Wait for the next scheduled synchronization. If it completes successfully, Remote Copy marks
the virtual volume state as Synced.

Issue the syncrcopy command.

Sync States

Synchronization states for virtual volumes that are displayed in Remote Copy output:

New

- Remote Copy for the primary virtual volume has not started.

Syncing

- Remote Copy is currently synchronizing the secondary virtual volume with the

primary.

Synced

- The primary and secondary virtual volumes are currently in sync (for asynchronous

periodic mode volumes, the output displays the last synchronization time).

NotSynced

- The primary and secondary virtual volumes are not in sync.

Stopped

- The volume group is stopped. The primary and secondary virtual volumes were in

sync the last time the group was in the Started state, but might be out of sync now.

Stale

- The secondary virtual volume has a valid point-in-time copy of the primary volume;

however, the last attempt at synchronization failed.

For more information on volume states, see

“The Remote Copy Commands” (page 224)
