4.

Verify that the snapshot belongs to the correct volume and is a read-only (RO) snapshot:
a.

Issue the showvv command.

b.

Check that the copy of field displays the volume group (for example, Group1) to which
the snapshot should belong.

c.

Check that the Rd column displays RO.

5.

Ensure your block-based backup software is set up to create the backup from the beginning
of the volume.

NOTE:

The initial synchronization and backup must start at the beginning of the volume so

the bit offsets of the data in the primary volume group exactly match the bit offsets in the
secondary volume group.

6.

Use the backup software to copy the snapshot to tape.

7.

Reverse the direction of data replication for the volumes on the backup system to allow the
volumes on the backup system to accept writes. On the backup system (System2), enter:

# setrcopygroup reverse -local -current -nosnap <group_name>

<group_name>

- Name of the secondary volume group (for example, Group1.r96) to

accept writes and to which you are copying the data on the tape

or:

# setrcopygroup reverse -local -current -nosnap -pat <pattern>

<pattern>

- Pattern of secondary volume group names (for example, Group*)

8.

Use the block-based backup software to copy the data from the tape to the secondary volume
group on the backup system (System2).

9.

Restore the original direction of data replication for the volumes on the backup system. On
the backup system (System2), enter:

# setrcopygroup reverse -local -current - nopromote <group_name>

<group_name>

- Name of the secondary volume group (for example, Group1.r96) for

which you are restoring the original direction of data replication

or:

# setrcopygroup reverse -local -current -nopromote -pat <pattern>

<pattern>

- Pattern of secondary volume group names (for example, Group*)

10. Start the primary volume group on the primary system to synchronize any changes that were

made after the initial snapshot was created. On the primary system (System1) enter either:

# setrcopygroup <group_name>
