Storage

Internal Oiling

1. Remove the spark plug.
2. Pour 1 tablespoon of clean engine oil into the

cylinder.

3. Crank the engine several times by pulling on

the starter rope.

4. Reinstall the spark plug.
5. Slowly pull the starter rope until resistance is

felt. At this point the piston is coming up on its
compression stroke and both the intake and
exhaust valves are closed. Storing the engine in
this position will help protect it from internal
corrosion.

Safety Features

Low-Oil Shutdown
This water pump is equipped with low-oil shut-
down. If the oil level in the engine gets too low the
engine will shut down automatically. This prevents
damage to the engine resulting from insufficient
lubrication.

It the engine shuts down and the oil is at the proper
level, make sure the water pump is on a level sur-
face. Having the unit at an angle may shift the oil
giving the sensor a false reading.

Spark Arresting Muffler
All Hot Max water pumps are equipped with spark
arresting mufflers allowing for use around agricul-
tural crops, forests, brush, grass and other similar
items. Spark arresting mufflers are required in the
State of California and on some U.S. Forest Ser-
vice Land and may also be legally required under
other statutes and ordinances. The California stat-
ues requiring a spark arresting muffler are Sections
13005(b), 4442 and 4443.

Replacement Parts

The emission control systems on your engine were
designed, built, and certified to conform with EPA
and California emission regulations. We recom-
mend the use of original replacement parts when-
ever you have maintenance done. These original-
design replacement parts are manufactured to the
same standards as the original parts, so you can be
confident of their performance. The use of replace-
ment parts that are not of the original design and
quality many impair the effectiveness of your
emission control system.

A manufacturer of an aftermarket part assumes the
responsibility that the part will not adversely affect
emission performance. The manufacturer or re-
builder of the part must certify that use of the part
will not result in a failure of the engine to comply
with emission regulations.
