Note on Recording Images and Saving Movies

The indicator showing the number of exposures remaining or the indicator showing the maximum
movie length flashes while images are being recorded or while a movie is being saved. Do not open
the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover or remove the battery or memory card
while an
indicator is flashing. Doing this could result in loss of data, or in damage to the camera or the
memory card.

B

Subjects Not Suitable for Autofocus

Autofocus may not perform as expected in the following situations. In some rare cases, the subject
may not be in focus despite the fact that the focus area or the focus indicator glows green.

Subject is very dark
Objects of sharply differing brightness are included in the scene (e.g. the sun behind the subject

makes that subject appear very dark)

No contrast between the subject and surroundings (e.g. a portrait subject, wearing a white shirt, is

standing in front of a white wall)

Several objects are at different distances from the camera (e.g. the subject is inside a cage)
Regular geometric patterns (e.g. window blinds or windows on a skyscraper)
Subject is moving rapidly
In the situations noted above, try pressing the shutter-release button halfway to refocus several
times, or focus on another subject (

A40). When focusing on another subject, be sure that the

alternate subject is at the same distance from the camera as the intended subject while the shutter-
release button is pressed halfway.

B

When the Subject Is Close to the Camera

If the camera cannot focus, try shooting with macro mode (

A59) or in the Close-up scene mode

(

A46).

B

Note About Face Detection

See “Notes About the Face Detection Function” (

A69) for more information.

C

Touch Shutter

At the default setting, the shutter can be released by simply tapping a subject in the monitor (

A39)

without pressing the shutter-release button. The Touch shutter option can be changed to the
Touch AF/AE option, which allows the camera to set the focus and exposure on the subject that is
tapped on the monitor. When using the Touch AF/AE option, the image is taken by pressing the
shutter-release button.

C

AF-assist Illuminator and Flash

If the subject is poorly lit, the AF-assist illuminator (

A89) may light up when the shutter-release

button is pressed halfway, or the flash (

A55) may fire when the shutter-release button is pressed all

the way down.

C

To Make Sure You Do Not Miss a Shot

If you are concerned that you might miss a shot, press the shutter-release button all the way without
first pressing it halfway.
