Playback Adjust
Use the various Playback Adjust settings to adjust the
picture quality of the video output.
From the Playback Adjust screen, use the / buttons
to select a setting, then use the / buttons to adjust
it.
• Pure Cinema – This setting optimizes the picture for
film material when the video output is set to
progressive scan. Usually it is best set to
On , but try
switching it Off if the picture appears unnatural.
• Block NR – Adjusts the amount of noise reduction
applied to the block noise (artifacts visible in areas of
flat color, caused by MPEG compression).
• Mosquito NR – Adjusts the amount of noise
reduction applied to the mosquito noise (artifacts
visible around the edge of an image, caused by
MPEG compression).
• White Level – Adjusts the intensity of white.
• Chroma Level – Adjusts how rich colors appear.
Press ENTER to exit the screen.
Audio settings
Audio Adjust setting
When watching Dolby Digital material at low volume via
the analog audio outputs (or via the digital output when
the Dolby Digital Out setting is set to
Dolby Digital
PCM ), low level sounds—including some of the dialog—
can be difficult to hear properly. Switching on Audio DRC
(Dynamic Range Control) can help by bringing up the low
level sounds, while controlling high level peaks.
From the Audio Adjust screen, use the / buttons to
adjust the Audio DRC setting On or Off . ( Off leaves the
dynamic range untouched; On ‘squashes’ the dynamic
range, making it good for lower-level listening.)
Press ENTER to confirm and exit the screen.
Tip
• Audio DRC is not effective when listening to a disc via
the digital output when Dolby Digital Out is set to
Dolby Digital . In this case adjust the dynamic range
from the receiver subwoofer—see Dynamic Range
Control on page 28.
