Section 2 Operating Instructions

Model 2250 Air Drill Cart 167-033M

Great Plains Mfg., Inc.

6.

Check all bin seals to make sure no air is leaking. Ad-
just the latch or replace the seals to prevent leakage.

7.

Make sure that nobody is in the way of the drill before
moving. Do not allow anybody to ride on the drill.

8.

Set the tractor engine idle to an approximate field
speed. Adjust the tractor flow control valve until the fan
pressure gauge reaches approximately 21” of water for
single shoot application (12 ounces per square inch).

9.

For double shoot operation adjust the manifold divert-
er to provide more air to the meter applying the most
material, see Figure 2-9.

Heavy seeding rates may require a higher setting.
Light rates or very fragile seeds may require a lower
setting for best distribution or if excessive crackage is
evident.

NOTE: Fan motor circuit is equipped with a check
valve to allow the fan to wind down freely when shut
off. The bottom of the fan rotor should rotate towards
rear of the cart.

NOTE: It only takes a very small air leak to cause a
large variation in the seeding rate.

NOTE: Moving the diverter far to one side will severely
restrict air flow to the other bin and may cause plugging.

NOTE: To use a double shoot equipped drill in a single
shoot application, such as when placing starter fertilizer
in the furrow with seed, switch the 2 1/2” hoses between
the meters so that the hoses leaving the front meter box
enter the rear meter box. See Figure 2-10. Set the air-
flow baffle to provide air only to the front bin. All material
from both bins will now leave the rear meter boxes.

10. Turn on the electric clutch switch in the cab. With the

fan running drive forward and lower the implement to
begin seeding.

11. Do not shut off the fan motor while seed is being me-

tered. Doing so will cause the distribution hoses to
plug. Do not rely on the tractor detent to hold the lever
on. Use a rapidly removable strap or hook to hold the
lever in place.

12. With a properly adjusted implement height switch it is

not necessary to turn the electric clutch switch on and
off manually while turning. The clutch switch should
be turned off while transporting.

13. Be aware of a slight 5‘-10’ delay needed for the seed

to reach the openers when starting. If you stop in the
middle of the field, lift the drill and back up 10‘ then
start from there.

14. Always operate farm machinery with safety in mind.

NOTE: Always engage the fan motor with the tractor
at a low idle speed. Do not reverse hydraulic flow with
the fan running. Do not exceed 5000 RPM fan speed.

NOTE: The electric clutch circuit contains 2 switches
besides the in-cab control. One switch requires that
the fan be running at a suitable speed before seed is
metered to prevent the hose from plugging. The other
switch is on the implement and only turns on the
clutch when the implement is lowered below the ad-
justed height. See Electric Clutch Height Switch in
the “Adjustments” section of the Implement manual
for more information. If you wish to run seed through
the system while the drill is stationary you must use
the hand crank as described in Setting the Drill Seed-
ing Rate
in the “Adjustments” section on page 20.
