STEP 7. Configure Your COM Ports

TIP:

If you select the same COM port for Input and Output, then data can be

is required when sending data to the AIS device.

Input Ports: Designates COM ports that will receive data from hardware devices.
Output Ports: Designates COM ports to which data will be sent.

To Configure Input COM Ports

Select System Menu | Tools/Settings | Options | Ports: Configure Tab (Figure
2.24
).
In the Input Ports column, check which COM port(s) are in use for each
hardware device connected to your computer.

Figure 2.24 - Settings | Options | Ports: Configure Tab

Select a COM port used by the device you wish to configure, and click
Configure This Input Port... to edit the type of incoming data (Figure 2.25).

To fine-tune your settings, you may wish to include or remove NMEA sentences
specific to the device connected to each COM Port. Tables 2.2-2.8 in Step 4 list
specific NMEA sentences for each device.
Click OK to save your changes.

From the COM# Input Configuration window, you can include or exclude specific
data sentences or entire device sentence streams. Click on the More Info button for
