15.0 Frequently Asked Questions
Q) I crashed my hard drive (got a new computer, new laptop etc.) and I need to reinstall
FastBreak Pro.
A) This is our most common tech support call. You MUST use the installation CD to
reinstall. We have had a number of users just try to copy files to the new computer or
hard drive. This will not work. Here are the steps:
ƒ
Install FastTrack first
ƒ Do at least one download and update of FastTrack data
ƒ Verify that the FastTrack account number on this computer matches the account
number on the FastBreak CD
ƒ Install FastBreak using the installation CD
ƒ Go to our web site and download the latest upgrade, if one exists
Q) I’m getting an error. What is the problem?
A) First, go to the web site and download the latest upgrade.
Next, verify you are inputting dates in the correct format. This is the most common prob-
lem. Finally, do not override the FastBreak determined start date to an earlier date.
Family names can only be 8 characters long and FNU output file names can only be 5
characters long.
Q) What trading parameters have you found that work best?
A) There is more than one answer here. Depending on the account, low risk vs. high risk
for example, we have different trading strategies. That is the problem with giving advice;
each person has different situations. FastTrack is operated under the rules that the indi-
vidual investor takes active involvement in investment decisions, and the authors of Fast-
Break have the same rule. With the introduction of all the new options in recent versions,
we have not even scratched the surface in studying all the combinations of parameters
that are possible.
Note: Even with this answer, we still receive many calls asking us to help, and we have
spent countless hours on the phone. Therefore, we have a new policy. We will help de-
velop and modify strategies, but our fee is $60 per hour for this support with a $100
minimum.
Q) FastBreak encounters an error when it is in the process of launching.
A) When FastBreak is launched, it will read all the family names in your FastTrack di-
rectories (Ft\Ftdef, Ft\Userdef, and Ft\Ft4win\Sftdef), including user created families,
