2.7.3 PPC_UART
Serial line test.

Description
This test checks sending and receiving characters on the serial line by setting the
PPC405 UART into loopback mode. This test is performed automatically during POST
in the case that the environment variable ‘post_en’ has been set. In case of a test failure
an error code is stored in the CPLD postcode warning register.

The message ‘POST serial passed’ is displayed on the bootloader serial console:

Failure impact

PPC-00060003 diagnostic code results from a failure of the management serial
port. Impact is loss of management access through the serial management port.

Description
This test checks the settings of the PPC405 external bus controller (EBC). EBC
configuration and status registers are accessed indirectly by reading and writing device
control registers EBC0_CFGADDR (DCR 0x012) and EBC0_CFGDATA (DCR
0x013). Reading and writing device control registers is done using the cpldtool which
provides access to the CPU’s device control registers.
Device access is configured by programming the EBC configuration registers. For each
device, its Peripheral Bank Configuration Register (EBC0_BnCR) and its Peripheral
Bank Access Parameters (EBC0_BnAP) have to be programmed properly.
