Note: Only manageable modules, such as L311 and L321 can take advantage of the UCS
1020’s management access functions.

Step 4: Applying Power

When installing the module in an enclosure, power up the device by inserting a power cord to an
AC outlet. During the boot-up process, which may take up to 20 seconds, the LEDs will turn
amber and the STA LED will flash amber until the boot-up process is complete. If the switches
are set to the default setting, the STA LED will light up red and all other LEDs on the module are
off. If the unit is either L312 or L322, the STA LED will be green.

Step 5: Management Access

Management access through the UCS 1020 or 1230 is limited to modules ending with the number
“1” in the family code, i.e. L321-xxxx and L311-xxxx. To access the user interface of the unit, a
VT100 session must be created through HyperTerminal or a comparable VT100 terminal. When
accessing the management interface through a UCS 1020, connect a DB-9 EIA-232, straight
cable from your PC or laptop (COM 1 or any open COM port) to the EIA-232 port of the UCS
1020 or DMM. Accessing the management interface through the 1230 BAM requires a DB-9 to
RJ cable available through Canoga Perkins, p/n CRJ-D9F-10.

Create a HyperTerminal session from your laptop or terminal through the
Programs/Accessories/Communications/HyperTerminal menu.
