Backing Up Your Main Drive

The good news is that once the Initial Backup is created, your system able to boot and run off the backup

drive (assuming it is high performance - see "Important Notes On Selecting a Suitable Backup Drive").

Additinoally, it can utilized to create "incremental" ("normal") backups, saving your work as you go along.

Normal backups (backing up just the things that have changed since the last backup) is usualy very fast.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you shut the power off during the backup or restore process, you risk

causing irreperable damage to the drive, so make sure that you have a reliable power source

attached to the unit before performing any backup or restore operation.

So the first step to using the Backup / Restore function is to create the initial backup. Once you are in the

Backup / Restore Mode, simply turn the knob to where it says the following:

Press the Encoder and confirm that you want to backup your data: .

You will get a warning that the backup process will destroy any data that is on the drive you will be

backing up to. Make sure you are okay with wiping the drive you are going to back up to, and select YES.

Once the backup process starts, you will be informed that the drive will be formatted and that it will take a

long time. The formatting process only happens once, and can take a very long time if the drive is large,

so be patient. Once the backup process has begun, you'll see a series of messages, such as:

You will also see a warning that you should NOT turn the power off while the unit is backing up:

Eventually the display will start indicating the number of files left that need to get copied between the

MAIN and BACKUP drives. For an initial backup, the number of files can be in the hundreds of thousands

(which is why the initial back up takes so long). You'll see a display of the number of files left to copy:

Eventually, you will copy over all the data from your Main drive to the back and see this:
