Maximum Airspeed Setup

To enter set the MAXIMUM IAS SET selection, perform the following steps:

1. Enter

the

CONFIGURATION menu as detailed

previously and select the MAXIMUM AS SET menu.

2. Press and release the HMODE button. The arrow will

be placed at the left side of the lower line. The
ARMED message will appear on the bottom line.

3. Fly the airplane to the maximum airspeed you wish to

set and stabilize at that airspeed.

4. Once the airspeed has stabilized, press and release

the encoder knob

5. Observe that the bottom line displays the "CAPTURE"

message.

6. Press and release the HMODE button.

The MAXIMUM AS SET procedure is complete and the encoder can now be used to select another
menu screen.

Note: In actual use, the dynamics of an aircraft in a descent will likely allow the airplane to increase

speed somewhat beyond the limit before the system can effectively slow the aircraft by raising the
nose. It is therefore best to set the limit with extra margin to allow for this.

Testing the MIN/MAX airspeed limits is accomplished by exiting the CONFIGURATION menu and
returning to the navigations screens (Press and hold the encoder knob for 3 seconds). Engage the V
NAV
servo and note that the system is in ALT HLD and the aircraft is level.

Press the V MODE button until the SET VS screen appears. Then rotate the encoder to specify a climb
rate. Press the encoder to initiate the climb. Once the aircraft is established in the climb, slowly retard
the throttle until the airspeed decays to the minimum airspeed that you have previously set. The display
should flash the message “MIN AS LIMIT”.

Check to be sure that the system lowers the nose of the aircraft so that the airspeed settles out at the
minimum airspeed that you have set. The screen will then display “MIN AS CAPT” as the autopilot
continually adjusts the elevator control to keep the speed at this limit.

The pilot should then check the maximum airspeed alarm limit by re-entering the SET VS mode and
dialing in an appropriate descent rate. When the maximum airspeed limit is achieved the display should
flash the message MAX AS LIMIT and the system should raise the nose of the aircraft to slow it to the
prescribed limit. Here again, as the speed slows, the display will show a MAX AS CAPT message after
the speed has decreased to the maximum airspeed setting. The autopilot will then adjust the elevator to
maintain a speed at the set limit.

Exiting from either minimum or maximum airspeed alarm indicators requires a press of any of the
quadrant buttons. The H NAV and V NAV servos will be disconnected and it will be necessary to control
the aircraft manually. Once airspeed is reestablished to normal flight parameters, the H NAV and V NAV
servos may be engaged. TRK and ALT HLD will be resumed.

Initial Setup of the Vertical Navigation Servo

Depending upon how the servos were mounted, the proper direction of rotation of the crank arm must be
assured.

VNAV SERVO SET menu screen allows setting the direction
of rotation of the V NAV servo. Initially the screen will appear
