Chapter 15

In Flight Adjustment of Horizontal Gain

Setting Course Mode (CRS) Gain

1. With

the

H NAV servo on, select the CRS mode and allow the airplane to stabilize on the

selected course for a few minutes.

2. Enter the PREFRENCES SETTINGS menus as

detailed previously and select the SET HNAV GAINS
menu

3. Use

the

H MODE button to select the CRS

parameter.

4. Rotate the encoder to increase this number one count.
5. Exit the calibration screens (press and hold encoder knob until the normal navigation screen

returns.

6. Observe tracking performance. If the oscillation increases return to step 2 and lower the CRS

setting by two counts (original count minus one).

7. Repeat steps 2 to 6 until best tracking is obtained. Normally the Pro Pilot will hold the ground

track within +/- 1 degree in smooth air

You should then adjust the TRK gain for best performance while in the Track mode. To do this you must
first exit the calibrations screens, returning back to the normal autopilot functions.

Here you should place the autopilot in the Track (TRK) mode by pressing the H MODE button
sequentially to illuminate the TRK LED and allow the aircraft to stabilize on the track that you have
selected on your GPS flight plan.

Once the aircraft is stabilized track gain can be set. Use the following procedure:

Setting Track (TRK) Gain

1. With

the

H NAV servo on, select the TRK mode and fly to a waypoint about 50 miles or greater

distance.

2. Allow the airplane to stabilize on the track centerline. Normal smooth air performance is 0.0+/-

0.03 miles either side of track, and typically you will see 0.00 to 0.01 most of the time.

3. Enter

the

PREFERENCES SETTINGS menus as detailed previously and select the SET HNAV

GAINS menu.

4. Use

the

H or V MODE button to select the TRK

parameter.

5. Increase or decrease this number one count at a time.
6. Exit the calibration screens (press and hold encoder

knob until the normal navigation screen returns.

7. Observe tracking performance. If variation around track centerline increases return to step 3 and

lower the TRK setting by two counts (original count minus one)

8. Repeat steps 2 to 7 until best tracking is obtained.
