Dealer Preparation For Operation (Continued)
Discharge Chute
Remove mounting hardware from on top of engine
(near spark plug). Position discharge chute over
opening on auger/impeller housing under retainer clip
and secure by fastening chute strap to engine with
hardware just removed. (On ST524, spacer goes
under brace at front, washers and lock washers go
under head of cap screws on top of chute strap.)
The pinion gear bracket that is secured to chute strap
is slotted for adjustment. Adjust so that pinion and flat
gears mesh together smoothly.
The chute strap and gear strap are also slotted for
vertical adjustment of the discharge chute. Loosen
mounting nut and move discharge chute up or down
so that chute ring is approximately centered between
front clip and lower ring. Then tighten.

Discharge Chute Crank
Place Discharge Chute Crank rod through bracket on
the handlebar panel and into gear on discharge and
secure with hair pin.
Attachment Clutch
Hook spring in attachment clutch lever then slide
cable housing into slot on the chassis arm. Adjust
the Control Cable Mounting Nuts to snug up the
Control Cable, then back off on the Nut 2 turns to
provide cable slack for brake wear. (See Figure 13)
Refer to Adjustments Section and adjust Attachment
Belt for proper function.
Wheel Drive Clutch
To assemble this drive cable, place the Z bend into
the traction clutch handle and the cable eyelet on the
small hook end. With the large hook end hooked on
the traction arm, properly adjust the wheel drive
clutch by rotating the adjusting sleeve until the cable
length provides 1/8 to 3/16 clearance slot between
the frame and the traction clutch arm when the
traction clutch handle is fully depressed. Lock
adjusting sleeve with jam nut when adjustment is
complete. (See figure 2).
Selector Adjustment
Thread one 5/16-18 nut on threaded end of speed
selector rod. With Speed Selector in (1) first speed,
place threaded end of rod through adapter. Position
top edge of speed selector arm 1/4" below top of
frame and tighten both nuts. (See figure 2).
Auger Gear Case
Check grease level in auger gear case (refer to
Lubrication and Maintenance Section of this manual.)
Tire Pressure
Check tire pressure and adjust to 20 PSI for
operation.
