7.10 Return Loss

Note: This is a Single-ended test.

The Return Loss measurement is useful in determining the affect of impedance mismatches.

1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1)
2. Choose RETURN LOSS from the pop-up menu.
3. Press the RUN / STOP button to start the test. The results will be displayed on screen in an easy to

understand format. Values between 50 to 60 dB are considered excellent. 30 to 50 dB is considered
good.


To repeat the test, press the RUN/STOP button.

7.11 SHDSL Data Rate Prediction

Note: This is a Single-ended test.

The Single-Ended SHDSL Test is a predictive test that allows a user to evaluate a circuits capabilities of
supporting SHDSL data rates from 192 kbps to 2.312 Mbps.

1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1)
2. Choose SHDSL from the pop-up menu.
3. Select SHDSL EVALUATION of ITU-T Annex A, NOISE MARGIN set to AUTO, and CABLE TYPE set

to AUTO.

4. Press the RUN / STOP button to start the test.

To repeat the test, press the RUN/STOP button. You can also change option settings if you wish by
pressing the function button associated with TEST SETUP.

7.12 4 Wire Xtalk

Note: This is a Single-ended test.

The 4 Wire Xtalk (Crosstalk) measurement is useful in determining the affect of crosstalk on adjacent pairs
due to bad splices, split pairs, etc. The user need to attached one pair of wire to the TX side of the
CableSHARK and another pair of wires to the RX side of the CableSHARK.

1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1)
2. Choose 4 WIRE XTALK from the pop-up menu.
3. Using the SELECT NEXT or SELECT PREVIOUS function keys, select the Wideband Test Type.
