ii Glossary

Gleaning A method where the print server will use the IP

Address of the first ping packet that is sent to its
Hardware Address. This is done by adding an entry
into a workstation's ARP table that assigns an IP
Address to the print server's Hardware Address. The
print server is then sent a PING which assigns the
address.

Leaf Objects Leaf objects are located at the end of a branch in the

Directory tree. They can't contain other objects.

Monarch Print
Server object

A Monarch Print Server object represents a physical
Monarch device on the network. Each Monarch
device may have one or more printers attached to it.

None Source routing is off. The route taken by the frame will

be determined by the bridges on the ring.

Object Name A property of every object that provides a name for

that object. Different objects use different properties
as their name. Most leaf objects use the Common
Name property (CN).

Object An entity defined on the network and given access to

the NetWare Server.

Page A page is a group of information in an object dialog,

accessed by choosing a page button (found on the far
right side of an object dialog). The pages of
information are all part of the same dialog box. The
OK and Cancel buttons affect all pages.

Print Queue object A Print Queue object represents a print queue. A print

queue stores print jobs sent from workstations. Print
queues are subdirectories in the QUEUES directory at
the root of the NetWare volume.

Print Server object A Print Server object represents a NetWare print

server. The print server (PSERVER.NLM) monitors
print queues, printers, and Monarch devices (in
NPrinter mode). It takes print jobs from the print
queue when the appropriate printer or Monarch device
is ready.
