2-1 Models Covered in This Manual
This manual provides operation, installation, and maintenance instructions for 12, 20 and 50
Series extrusion control and extruder monitor units. Model numbers are listed on the serial
tag. Make sure you know the model and serial number of your equipment before contacting
the manufacturer for parts or service.
The extrusion control unit is a self-contained monolayer extrusion weight per length system.
The extrusion monitor only hoppers are designed to be used only in coextrusion applications
in conjunction with optional control package software. Extruder Control Units are sized to
meet the specific requirements stated by the Customer at the time of purchase.
2-2 General Description
This manual contains the basic information needed to operate and maintain our standard
extrusion control units.
The extrusion control system tracks the extruder screw speed and continually learns the rate
of each extruder screw revolution. The unit then adjusts the extrusion line haul-off speed (or
optional extruder speed) to keep product weight per length consistent. The extrusion control
unit then adjusts for varying product weights, flow characteristics, and varying extrusion
pressures, such as plugged screen packs and other factors.
You can adjust the unit to a preset weight per length (either grams per meter or pounds per
foot) specification, or you can set it to hold the existing extrusion parameters set.
