9.4 Controlling Loads Using SMA Radio-Controlled Sockets

Controlling Program-Controlled Loads

This section describes how to control program-controlled loads using SMA radio-controlled sockets,
as exemplified by a washing machine.

Procedure:

1. Ensure that the load can be controlled by the SMA radio-controlled socket:

• Ask the load manufacturer whether the load is suitable for control via an

SMA radio-controlled socket or a timer.

2. Connect the washing machine to the SMA radio-controlled socket.
3. Configure the washing machine as a load (see Section 9.3 "Configuring Loads", page 65).
4. Configure the SMA radio-controlled socket to which the washing machine is connected

(see Section 9.2, page 62) and assign it to the load Washing machine (see Section 9.2.4,
page 63).

5. Set the operating mode of the SMA radio-controlled socket to Switch on (see Section 9.2.6,

page 64). Voltage supply to the washing machine is now enabled.

6. Load the washing machine with laundry.
7. Set the desired program on the washing machine.
8. Start the washing machine.
9. Immediately after the washing machine starts, set the SMA radio-controlled socket to operating

mode Automatic (see Section 9.4).

☑ The SMA radio-controlled socket switches to Switch off mode and will be switched on by the

Sunny Home Manager within the set time period in accordance with the available energy
amount and type.

☑ After the program ends, the SMA radio-controlled socket switches to Switch on mode.

The washing machine can be filled again and either started manually or automatically via the
Sunny Home Manager.

✖ The Sunny Home Manager does not switch the SMA radio-controlled socket on within the

configured time period?
You may have set the SMA radio-controlled socket to Automatic after the beginning of the time
period, e.g. the time period starts at 1:00 p.m. and you have set the SMA radio-controlled
socket to Automatic after 1:00 p.m. If the washing cycle cannot be completed within the time
period due to the maximum program runtime, the Sunny Home Manager will not switch the
SMA radio-controlled socket on until the next time period.

• To set the connected load to start immediately, set the operating mode of the

SMA radio-controlled socket to Switch on (see Section 9.2.6, page 64).

Controlling Non-Program-Controlled Loads

The section describes how to control a non-program-controlled load using SMA radio-controlled
sockets, as exemplified by a pond pump.
