Maintenance

10. Maintenance

The following maintenance steps should be
performed every 30,000 mi. (48,280 km) or
three (3) months, whichever comes first.

Failure to inspect and
maintain the pintle hook
may result in separation
of the trailer and vehicle
which, if not avoided,
could result in death or
serious injury.

1. Clean and check for proper operation.

Inspect for worn, damaged or missing
parts. Replace as required using only
Genuine SAF-HOLLAND parts.

2. Inspect the coupling contact area for

wear. Replace the complete product
when wear exceeds 0.188" (4.8 mm)
from the original surface profile.

3. Additional inspections should be

conducted immediately if there is:

of motion of the coupling connection

3. Regularly lubricate latch pivots with

a light oil lubricant.

4. With the latch closed, measure the gap

between the hook and the latch while
lifting up on the latch. Replace the latch
when the gap exceeds 0.38" (9.5 mm)
(Figure 20).

separation of
the trailer and vehicle which
if not avoided, could result
in death or serious injury.
