Figure 48. Volume group successfully changed

Step 7 – From the XenServer console in XenCenter. The XPSP2-02-RS-1storage repository volume
group name, VG_XenStorage-13a7f4d6-75c7-8318-6679-eb6702b11de1, will be renamed to
represent a new UUID for the storage repository. The “VG_XenStorage-13a7f4d6-75c7-8318-6679-
eb6702b11de1” will be changed to “VG_XenStorage-13a7f4d6-75c7-8318-6679-eb6702b11de2”.
Note that a unique UUID may be chosen by altering a single last alphanumeric. A digit 0 thru 9 and
a letter are valid characters for the UUID. Note that although naming is not enforced, it is strongly
urged to keep the same number of characters. If many UUIDs are to be generated, a random UUID
may be created by the following command:

cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/uuid

The command returns a random UUID. In this example, da304b0f-fe27-40b2-9034-7799b97b197d
is returned and will be equally as valid to use. Either by random selection or manual choice, a unique
UUID must be used. The format of the renamed command will append VG_XenStorage- to the start of
the UUID. On the console command line, type:

vgrename VG_XenStorage-13a7f4d6-75c7-8318-6679-eb6702b11de1 VG_XenStorage-

da304b0f-fe27-40b2-9034-7799b97b197d
The command returns that the volume group “VG_XenStorage-13a7f4d6-75c7-8318-6679-
eb6702b11de1” is successfully renamed to “VG_XenStorage-da304b0f-fe27-40b2-9034-
7799b97b197d”. Note the new UUID highlighted in bold, which matches the generated UUID.

Step 8 – From the XenServer console in XenCenter. The XPSP2-02-RS-1 storage repository volume
group contains a new name, “VG_XenStorage-da304b0f-fe27-40b2-9034-7799b97b197d.” Now
that the storage repository has been changed, the virtual disk contained on the storage repository will
also need to be changed. If additional virtual disks are also contained on the same storage
repository, Step 9 will need to be repeated for every logical volume found on the newly renamed
storage repository volume group. On the console command line, type:
