C. Sidewalls/Surrounds

• Locate adjacent combustible sidewalls a minimum of 24 in. (610 mm) from fireplace opening.

• Mantle leg, surround, stub wall, whether combustible or non-combustible, may be constructed as shown in Figure 6.3.
