SIP

SIP is an acronym for Session Initiated Proto-

col and refers to a widely used commercial pro-

tocol for multimedia sessions over IP networks.

STE (Secure Terminal Equipment)

New secure telephone for use by the US Gov-

ernment.

STU-IIB

Secure Telephone Unit Generation Two Version

B. NATO version of STU-III.

STU-III

Secure Telephone Unit Generation Three. no

longer in production and set to become obso-

lete at the end of 2009, the STU-III was the US

Government's primary secure communications

device for over twenty years.

STU-IIIA

Secure Telephone Unit Generation Three Ver-

sion A. US Secure telephone that can connect

with a STU-IIB.

Synchronous

Synchronous refers to the way in which data

is passed between the 90si and the attached

Secure Telephone. Specifically, in synchronous

communications each data bit is "clocked"

between the 90si and the Secure Phone using

clock signals generated by the Secure Phone.

The clock signal tells the 90si what "data rate"

the Secure Phone is using.

Two-Line Dual-Mode Configuration

This 90si configuration allows the attached fax

to function as BOTH a secure fax AND a non-

secure fax. Unclassified faxes can be received

aoutomatically (unattended).

VoIP

An acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol

which refers to systems for delivering voice

communications over IP networks.

Volatile Memory

Employed in the 90si, this type of memory

loses its data when power is removed.
