Select the digital output to be output from the optical/coaxial digital
audio output connector of the player.

At the initial settings screen (on page 56)

Press SELECT ( , ) to select “6 Digital
Audio Output” and press ENTER.

1 PCM:

PCM (2ch) is output during playback of
DVDs recorded in dts. (Factory preset)

setting when the player is connected to
a dts decoder.

The screen illustrated in step I is displayed. Select “0” with
press SELECT ( , ) button and press ENTER to return
to the initial settings screen.

1 PCM Down Conversion:

To select whether digital audio converted to 48 kHz/16 bit is
output from the optical/coaxial digital audio output connector
or no digital audio is output during playback of DVDs recorded
in 96 kHz Linear PCM.
(If the DVD is recorded in 48 kHz Linear PCM, digital audio
converted to 48 kHz/16 bit is output irrespective of the setting.)

2 Dolby Digital:

To select the signal format (Bitstream or PCM) to be output
from the optical/coaxial digital audio output connector during
playback of DVDs recorded in Dolby Digital.

3 DTS Digital Surround:

To select the signal format (PCM or Bitstream) to be output
from the optical/coaxial digital audio output connector
during playback of DVDs recorded in dts.

When “1 PCM Down Conversion” is selected
1 N0:
Digital audio of 48 kHz/16 bit is output during playback

of DVDs recorded in 48 kHz Linear PCM. No digital
audio is output during playback of DVDs recorded in
96 kHz Linear PCM. However, audio will be output
using the original audio recording system if the DVD
has not been copyright-protected. (Factory preset)

2 Yes: During playback of DVDs recorded in 48 kHz or 96 kHz

Linear PCM, digital audio converted to 48 kHz/16 bit is output.
(Digital output of PCM audio is restricted to 48 kHz/
16 bit or below for copyright protection.)

When “2 Dolby Digital” is selected
1 Bitstream *

Dolby Digital bitstream (1ch-2 PCM:
5.1ch) is output during playback of DVDs
recorded in Dolby Digital. (Factory preset)
Select this setting when the player is
connected to a Dolby Digital decoder.

equipment that is connected to the optical/coaxial digital audio

Do not connect to the digital audio input of an amplifier that

does not have Dolby Digital/dts audio decoder: if such an
amplifier should be connected to the player with “Bitstream”
selected at the “2 Dolby Digital”, “3 dts” , any attempt to play
DVDs (or CDs recorded in dts) may cause such a high level of
noise that it may be harmful to your ears and damage speakers.

96 kHz PCM sound is converted to 48 kHz 16 bit sound when

this player is connected with an optical digital audio cable. Do
the following if you wish to take advantage of high quality 96
kHz sound.
Select “1 No” and connect this player’s audio output connector
to an amplifier’s audio input connector with the audio/ video
cable (included) or an audio cable (not included). Note that
PCM, Dolby Digital, and dts signals will all be output in 2
channel, analog form.
