Do not direct the power tool against yourself, other per-
sons or animals.
Danger of injury from sharp or hot
application tools.
Before putting into operation, check the mains connec-
tion and the mains plug for damage.

Recommendation: The tool should always be supplied
with power via a residual current device (RCD) with a
rated current of 30 mA or less.

Hand/arm vibrations

The vibration emission level given in this information
sheet has been measured in accordance with a standard-
ised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare
one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary
assessment of exposure.
The declared vibration emission level represents the
main applications of the tool. However, if the tool is used
for different applications, with different accessories or
poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ.
This may significantly increase the exposure level over
the total working period.
An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration
should also take into account the times when the tool is
switched off or when it is running but not actually doing
the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level
over the total working period.
Identify additional safety measures to protect the opera-
tor from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool
and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation
of work patterns.

Operating Instructions.

Guide the power tool toward the work piece only
when switched on.

While cutting, hold the power tool as upright as possible
to the work-piece surface (BLS 1.6 E and BLS 2.5 E).
Guide the power tool uniformly and with light feed in the
cutting direction. Excessive feed reduces the tool life of
the application tools.
Do not cut steel sheets where welded. Do not cut lay-
ered sheets exceeding the max. work-piece thickness.

To increase the tool life of the blades, it is recommended
to apply a lubricating agent alongside the intended cutting
line:
For cuts in steel sheet: Cutting paste or cutting oil.

For cuts in aluminium: Petroleum.
Do not switch the power tool off until after having
removed it from the cutting path.
The symptom for worn blades is a clearly increased feed
force at lower working progress.
BSS: For inside cuts, a pilot hole is required; see “Techni-
cal Data”.
BSS 1.6 CE: For cut-outs, pull the power tool from the
chip while the motor is running. Cut long chips off.
BSS 1.6 E, BSS 1.6 CE: Blades and cutting bars cannot be
reground.
BSS 2.0 E: Blades and cutting bars can be reground.
BSS 2.0 E: For stationary operation, clamp the power tool
in a vice using aluminium or plastic protection jaws.
Tighten the vice adequately so that the application tool is
clamped firmly yet not damaged.

BLS 1.6 CE, BLS 2.5 E, BLS 3.5: The blades cannot be
reground and must always be replaced in pairs.
BLS 4.2: The table blade can be reground; check the cut-
ting angle with the grinding gauge provided.
Check the cutting slit; excessive feed leads to an overly
narrow slit; heavy burrs will result from a too wide slit.
BLS 3.5, BLS 4.2: The self-start prevention lock prevents
the power tool from automatically restarting again, even
after a brief interruption of the power supply, e. g., from
a pulled mains plug. Switch the power tool off and then
on again.

Repair and customer service.

When working metal under extreme operat-
ing conditions, it is possible for conductive
dust to settle in the interior of the power tool.

The total insulation of the power tool can be impaired.
Blow out the interior of the power tool via the ventila-
tion slots frequently with dry and oil-free compressed air,
and connect a residual current device (RCD) on the line
side.
When the power tool’s power cord is damaged, it must
be replaced by FEIN or by an authorized FEIN Service
Agent, in order to avoid hazardous situations.
The current spare parts list for this power tool can be
found in the Internet at www.fein.com.
If required, you can change the following parts yourself:
Application tools, cutting bars (BSS)
