MSD 8378 Ford 351W Crank Trigger Distributor Installation - Manual

Note: Read these instructions completely before attempting the installation.

1 - MSD Distributor Assembly 1 - Gasket
2 - O-Rings 1 - Rotor Phasing Tech Brief
1 - Tube of Gear Lubricant 2 - 1.5" Self Tapping Screws
1 - Wire Retainer
Replacement Parts:
Rotor and Base, PN 8457
Cap, PN 8408
WARNING: During installation, disconnect the battery cables. When disconnecting the cables,
always remove the Negative cable first and install it last.
Note: A Crank Trigger must be used with this distributor.
An MSD Billet Hold-Down Clamp, PN 8010, is recommended.
INSTALLING THE DISTRIBUTOR
1. Position the number one cylinder at the desired timing.
2. Apply a liberal amount of the supplied lubricant to the distributor gear.
3. Install the distributor making sure that it seats fully. If the distributor will not fully seat, you may need
to rotate the oil pump shaft.
4. Rotate the distributor until the rotor aligns with the number one terminal of the distributor cap.
5. Position and tighten the hold-down clamp onto the distributor.
6. Install the distributor cap and clamp it in place.
7. Install the spark plug wires.
8. It is recommended to check and confirm correct rotor phasing. The supplied tech breif explains
rotor phasing in detail.
9. An optional wire retainer is supplied to secure the wires in place. Align the mounting bosses and
use the two self-tapping screws to hold the retainer in place.
