Chapter 7: Roof Assembly

Installing the 6–Hole Intermediate Purlins

Intermediate purlins must be installed to connect each A-frame roof rafter assembly together. The inter-
mediate purlins connecting each A-frame roof rafter assembly have six holes on each side to secure them
with the purlin clips.

Before You Begin
All A-frame roof rafter assemblies must be installed and secured to both the center collar and the eave
brackets.
What You Should Know

IMPORTANT: The A-frames may have X-braces attached to the purlins. Before installing intermediate pur-

lins, make sure to loosen and remove the flange bolt and the flange nut securing the X-
braces with lower purlin clips and the rafters in the adjacent A-frames (if available).

1. Install the intermediate purlin (H) to the purlin clips (D and E) located outside of each A-frame roof

rafter assembly (A).

2. Attach a lower left purlin clip (J) and lower right purlin clip (K) to the purlin (H).

3. Install six flange bolts (B) and six flange nuts (G) to each end of the purlin (H) securing the intermedi-

ate purlin to the purlin clips.

4. Install three flange bolts (F) and three flange nuts (I) to the lower left purlin clip to secure the lower left

purlin clip with the A-frame rafter and the lower right purlin clip in the adjacent A-frame.

NOTE: If X-bracing is installed in the adjacent A-frames, ensure that it is also assembled together

with the purlin clips and rafter.

5. Install three flange bolts (F) and three flange nuts (I) to the lower right purlin clip to secure the purlin

clip with the A-frame rafter and the lower left purlin clip in the adjacent A-frame.

NOTE: If X-bracing is installed in the adjacent A-frames, ensure that it is also assembled together

with the purlin clips and rafter.

6. Tighten the hardware to the recommended torque specifications. See
