Where To Place Your In-Ceiling Speakers

Residential Use (Fig. 2)

Placement can make all the difference in how your speakers sound, and how easy they will

be to install. Carefully consider where your speakers should be positioned. For optimum

performance, speakers should be mounted to the left and right of the main listening area

and a minimum of 8 to 10 feet apart (see Fig. 2). Avoid mounting speakers in stud cavities

containing electrical wiring, heating ducts, water pipes, etc. Make sure the ceiling materials

are sturdy enough to support the weight of the speakers. For residential use with a con-

ventional stereo amplifier or surround receiver, be certain the transformer tap switch is

set to 8 ohms (see Fig 4).

Commercial Use (Fig. 3)

When using the NX-PRO6820CE for a distributed system, it is important that you know

if the amplifier you intend to use is a 70-volt type or 8 ohm. You also need to know the

desired sound level from each speaker so you can calculate the total amplifier power

needed. Speaker placement depends on room size, coverage density desired, coverage

angle of the speaker, ceiling height, and type of audio program to be reproduced. Our

descriptions are not intended to cover all of the design considerations of a large distrib-

uted system. The main concern when using the NX-PRO6820CE is the setting of the

transformer tap switch while using a 70-volt amplifier (see Fig. 4). As a general rule, the

lower tap settings are used for background music, the higher settings are used to over-

come louder environments. Make your preliminary selection by setting the slotted con-

trol so the arrow is pointing to the desired transformer tap. You can always go back and

change the setting since the control is on the face of the speaker.
