2.

In the Visual Effects pane, locate the checkbox labelled Show window contents while
dragging
.

3.

Verify that the small checkbox for this item does not have a check in it.

3.4.7.5.3 Setting the Screen Saver Option

To configure the Screen Saver option, navigate to the Control Panel and select Display.

Click on the Screen Saver tab. Certain screen saver programs (mainly the OpenGl-based screen saver
programs) can cause serious degradation of the Windows server performance. For this reason, use of the
Blank screen saver option (Windows XP) or no screen saver (the [None] option on Windows 2000) is
strongly recommended. Certain other screen savers may yield acceptable performance (e.g., Starfield
Simulation).

3.4.7.6 Verify Taskbar Options

The Windows Taskbar is typically displayed at the bottom of the screen. However, the Micro-PWC operator
windows also typically extend to the bottom of the screen. To make it easier to view and resize the operator
windows, change the Taskbar settings as follows:

Select Start > Settings > Taskbar & Start Menu.

Next, select both the Always on top and the Auto Hide options. (In Windows XP, these options
are labelled Keep the Taskbar on top of other windows and Auto hide the taskbar.) With these
options, the taskbar is hidden (allowing the operator windows to be fully visible) until the
mouse is moved to the very bottom of the screen.

3.4.7.7 Verify Power Management Options

Some PC's support power management at the BIOS level, independent of the operating system. When this
power management feature is enabled, it will power-down various components of the computer after a
period of user inactivity.

Power management may shut-down the hard drive, the network card, and even the CPU, causing the
Micro-PWC software to halt. Since the background Micro-PWC tasks providing services such as communi-
cation and data collection should continue to run even if the user is not actively using the keyboard or
mouse, all power management features should be disabled. To disable BIOS level power manage-
ment, refer to the documentation for your computer.

3.5 Installing the Micro-PWC Software

Now you will begin the process of installing the Micro-PWC software. The Micro-PWC system can be
installed in two modes: the Micro-PWC mode or the Micro-PWC Client mode. You will select which mode
you want to install at the beginning of the installation process. A description of the two modes follows:

Micro-PWC Mode - Select this mode when you want to install the Micro-PWC software to operate with a
full complement of servers and fully participate in network operations (e.g., synchronize network-wide files,
include database and graphics files, etc.). A Micro-PWC node can act as a server node for other nodes
running Micro-PWC Client software. A "srvr" license is required to use this mode.

NOTE

To achieve the best results, the Drag mode and Screen Saver
settings should be configured as described here prior to installation
of the Micro-PWC system software. If necessary, this setting will be
adjusted to the desired value by the Micro-PWC system software
after it is installed.
