Installing the
Workstation
Application
IntelliTrack WMS v8.x operates in a network environment and involves
application and server setup. Before you install the workstation application,
determine the setup type:
• Single Workstation Setup: All components are installed on a single
PC.
• Network Setup: Components are installed on a network. When you
install your application in a network environment, usually the server
and database are installed in a central network location and the individ-
ual workstation applications connect to the data file from the network.
Installation Terms
During workstation application installation, you will come across various
terms. These terms, as they relate to installing IntelliTrack WMS, are
defined below.
• Workstation Application: The IntelliTrack WMS application that
runs on the desktop computer.
• SQL Express: A “lite” version of SQL Server that is used to run the
WMS database. If you are a new user and do not have SQL Server-Full
version installed on your system, SQL Express will be installed during
the installation process to run the WMS database.
• SQL Server: The SQL Server is an application that runs the WMS
database (instead of SQL Server Express).
• PC or Machine: Refers to a desktop computer that runs the WMS
application.
• Server: The machine on which the Microsoft SQL Server resides. In
order to run IntelliTrack WMS, you must establish the server connec-
tion.
